Welcome to the Beehive Golf Society
Beehive 2009 Captain, Danny McDonald, enjoyed a fantastic turn out for the first Beehive event of the year, The Courage Cup. With a large field competing, not only for the trophy but for qualification into the knockout cup, Ken Lomas came out on top to take the trophy with 43 points. With the new handicap system in place this year Ken also took a hefty 3 shot cut to his handicap.
The glorious weather brought out some good scoring with Justin Richards taking 2nd place with 38 points, closely followed by Dave Fraser on 37 points. The winner of the par 3's was Leroy Townsend with 17 points, not bad considering he only got 12 points for the rest of the holes!
The Annual Dinner & Dance was a successful night. Although down on numbers, everyone who attended were treated to a thoroughly enjoyable night. Danny McDonald, the 2009 Beehive Captain, made his speeches a bit more coherent than Eric's was the previous year. In time honoured Beehive fashion there was only the one 'cock-up' of the night as they forgot to present the flowers!
We all now look forward to the first event of the year, the Courage Cup and chance to qualify for the Knockout Cup. See you all on the 10th May.
The Beehive Golf Society held their A.G.M today and revealed the new Captain, Beehive Treasurer Danny McDonald.
The Beehive Society committee and members would like to welcome their new captain and we all look forward to having Danny as captain for the forthcoming season and wish him well.
The Beehive Golf Society would also like to welcome new members, Phil Millard, Mark Dimond, Maboob Khaliq, Ron Nicholls, Mick Aylett, John Hayes, Nigel Smith, Russell Joseph, Dennis Rabbitt and Stuart Payne. We hope you all enjoy your rookie Beehive season and look forward to your continued support.
We would all like to see a good support for the opening Beehive function of year the annual dinner and dance, on Saturday 4th April. All are welcome and if you could let the Beehive secretary, Nick Hitchens, know if you will be attending.
Beehive 2008 Captain, Eric Mooney, enjoyed the finale to his Beehive Captaincy. Although losing the final of the 2008 Beehive Knockout Cup to rookie member German Singh on the day, Eric still managed to enjoy the days golf before the evening dinner and dance.
The days events started with the 2008 Beehive Knockout Cup final as well as the Captains Prize taking place. As previously stated, Beehive rookie German Singh beat the 2008 Captain Eric Mooney on the 17th hole to take the Knockout Cup prize. The Captains prize was won by no other than Ilford Golf Club captain Eric Weeks with 37 points in some difficult conditions.
The attention turned from the golf to the dinner and dance for the evening and although the turnout was poor, those that did attend thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the dancing, not to mention the drinking!
The Beehive would like to thank all attending members and their guests for their support and hope to see them again in the new year. Full details of the Beehive 2009 diary will be posted on here as soon as we have finalised the details.

Scoring 46 points between them they came first in a very strong field. In 2nd place were Paul Prenderville and Russell Joseph with 44 points beating Glyn Evans and Derek Alaway into 3rd place on countback
With the final day of the Ryder Cup taking place at the same time, the Beehive Guest Day saw a fantastic turnout with 54 people taking part. The "Nearest the Pin" competition was won by Ilford Golf Clubs very own, the President, Pat Riordan. Stuart Curran's guest, Matt Curran, won the "Longest Drive" contest on the 17th with a mammoth drive of well over 300 yards (Tiger Woods average drive is 304 yards to put into perspective) and Jim Gallagher and guest, John Hayes won the par 3 competition with 18 points.
The Beehive would like to thank all attending members and their guests for their support and hope to see them again at the next meeting, The Captains Day, on Saturday, 25th October where a dinner and dance will be following the days golfing activites.

Eric, along with 22 other Beehive members enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Chairmans Cup day with Simon Hetherington finishing 2nd on 36 points closely followed by Justin Richards who scored 35 points.
The "Nearest the Pin" competition was won by Les Shields with a driver on the 4th hole. Irish big hitter, Ted Roche won the "Longest Drive" competition on the 17th with one of his trademark belters with fellow Irishman John Scully taking the par 3 competition with 17 points.
