Beehive 2009 Captain, Danny McDonald, enjoyed a fantastic turn out for the first Beehive event of the year, The Courage Cup. With a large field competing, not only for the trophy but for qualification into the knockout cup, Ken Lomas came out on top to take the trophy with 43 points. With the new handicap system in place this year Ken also took a hefty 3 shot cut to his handicap.

The glorious weather brought out some good scoring with Justin Richards taking 2nd place with 38 points, closely followed by Dave Fraser on 37 points. The winner of the par 3's was Leroy Townsend with 17 points, not bad considering he only got 12 points for the rest of the holes!

During the after event ceremony, the Beehive were treated to some belly laughs from stand-in treasurer Eric Mooney and also from Ilford Golf Club 2009 Captain, Ray Stevens. Eric, being stand-in treasurer, collected the tie fine money from James Osman, before attempting a double collection from Captain Ray. Ray, had other plans though and as Eric approached him, Ray took off his jacket to turn around and reveal infact that he WAS wearing his beehive tie and so thwart Eric's advances.

After the main post competition proceedings and awards presentations, everyone ventured into the bar for the usual Beehive "knees up". Far from "usual", this evening turned into a fantastic night of debauchery with no less than 7 (SEVEN) "me, me, me's"!!! The Ilford Golf Club bell was nearly rushed to the local King George's hospital at one point due to stress.

The day was also marked by Beehive and Ilford Golf Club resident "pisshead", Peter Lawlors 40th Birthday. A rendition of "happy birthday" was sung, in between the "me, me, me's" and the day will go down in memory as one of the most enjoyable Beehive events.

We hope to see you all at the next Beehive meeting, The Presidents Cup, on Sunday June 7th. This will also be the day where the first round of the knockout cup will need to be played by. To view the draw for the knockout cup please click here.
