The Beehive Golf Society Rules

Designation

The Society be known as the Beehive Golfing Society.

Management

The management of the Society and its finances be vested in a committee and the committee consist of the President, Captain, Chairman, Deputy Chairman (it was agreed at the 1984 A.G.M. that the post of deputy chairman be abolished), Treasurer, Secretary and two other members of the Society.
Any member of the committee may be removed by resolution at the A.G.M. providing there is a two-thirds majority vote of the members assembled in favour of his removal.
Three members of the committee shall form a quorum.

A.G.M

The Annual General Meeting shall be held each year in the month of November (or such a date as decided by the committee).

Subscription

The annual subscription shall be £5.00.
The committee shall at their discretion have full power to vary the annual subscription.

Membership

1. No person may become a member unless:
(a) He is a client of the Beehive Hotel, Ilford. (This rule rescinded in 1985 due to the closure of the Beehive Hotel).
(b) He has been duly proposed and seconded by two members of the Society.
(c) He has been approved and elected by the Committee.
(d) He has paid his subscription.

2. Each member on election to the Society shall be deemed to submit to the rules and act in accordance therewith.

3. Any member whose subscription has not been paid by the 1st January (now: the first meeting of) each year shall forfeit his membership of the Society.

4. Membership shall be limited to 40 Full Members and such Associate Members as the Committee in their discretion from time to time admit.

Associate Membership

The committee at their discretion shall have the power to elect Associate Members. Full members, who from ill health, change in residence, advanced age, etc., are unable to fulfil the conditions of membership, shall be eligible to become Associate Members. Associate Members are eligible for full membership as soon as their conditions warrant.

Competitions

There shall be four (now: five) competitions each year to be held on Sunday afternoons as far as possible on the following dates:

(a) Chairman's Cup
(b) Courage Cup
(c) Guest Day
(d) Presidents Bowl and Captain's Prize

It shall be obligatory for each member to be present at, at least two of these competitions and that any member not complying with this rule shall, at the discretion of the Committee forfeit his membership.
The expense of these meetings shall be shared by the members competing and each member shall be responsible for his own green fee (if applicable).

Handicap

Members, on election, must furnish to the Secretary, in writing, particulars of their handicap in other societies or clubs, and must inform the Secretary in writing of any change in such handicap.
A member desiring a handicap must return three cards duly completed and signed by a competent marker.
The Committee shall have power to adjust the handicaps of members irrespective of handicaps in other clubs or societies.

Disputes

Any point or points of dispute arising shall be settled by the committee and their decision final.

Dinner

A supper or dinner-dance shall be held in the month of January each year (or on a date early in the year as decided by the committee). The type of function shall be at the discretion of the Captain. The Captain will also take full financial responsibility for whatever function he chooses to hold.
All trophies won during the year shall be presented at this function (now: shall be presented at each individual function).

Addresses

Any change of address must be notified as soon as possible to the Secretary in writing.

Society Tie

The official tie shall be maroon, decorated with a single beehive in gold and the motto "Virtus".

Club Night

Club Night is the first Wednesday of each month and all members will be sure of a welcome and will meet other Club Members at the Beehive (now: suspended).
